Ideas For a “No-Sandwich” Lunch

Your kid’s lunches shouldn’t stop at the average sandwich! It’s easy to get caught up in the sandwich making routine because they are so easy to whip up. We wanted to give you some fun alternatives to the average sandwich that are just as easy to prepare in the morning or ahead of time!

Pasta Salad- Pasta salads are a great food for your kids especially because they don’t require warming up like a regular pasta dish. You can also make a large amount of one of your favorite recipes and store it for multiple lunch uses! Try one of Better Homes and Garden’s pasta salad recipes.

Pita or Bagel Sandwiches- Try taking the ingredients you would normally put between two slices of bread and put them on a pita or a bagel! This is another great option for a healthy meal that doesn’t require keeping cool or warming up and your kids will love the variety! If you have some kids with daring taste buds, try this falafel pita sandwich from Spoon Fork Bacon.

Nuts and Cheeses- A delicious and easy snack! Nuts and cheese are so easy to buy in bulk and pre-portion for the meals ahead.

Hummus and Veggies- If you’re kids already like eating healthy, they may love to dip some veggies in hummus. If not, there are still plenty of ways to get creative with easy to prep veggies and dip. Hummus is really easy to home make as well! Here is a recipe for Sweet Potato Hummus or a more classic Hummus.

Fruits- Whole fruits, sliced fruits, sauced fruits, they are all great and for the most part, require no “prepping” what-so-ever!

Thermos Meals- Does anyone still use a thermos? We should never underestimate how wonderful they are! This can really add some variety to your kids meals by allowing them some soup in the winter, pasta or any other dish that requires warmth.

So tell us, what are your favorite “no sandwich” lunches to pack for your kids??
