Losing weight seems to be on everybody’s mind these days and the first thing they think of is eating less and depriving your body. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Being so restrictive in what you eat and significantly lowering your caloric intake can send your body into “starvation mode”. In turn, anything you do eat is then stored as adipose tissue a.k.a. FAT and us sexy mom’s do not want that! Not going overboard on with your caloric intake is important, you don’t want to be eating 10,000 calories a day but you don’t want to be eating just 1,000 either.
Life is about balance isn’t it? So balance yourself. Start your day off with a nutritious breakfast, it is so important! It sets your entire day up for you. Some protein and complex carbohydrates is all you need. A sample breakfast would be egg whites scrambled with some vegetables (spinach, bell pepper, onion) and wrapped up in a whole grain wrap or whole grain toast topped with 1 tablespoon of all natural peanut butter (not talking about Skippy or Jiff here people but the kind you can find in the all natural section of your supermarket) and a banana. Oatmeal mixed with low-fat or fat-free yogurt and some fruit is always good too! You should load up for breakfast so you are not starving by lunch! If you are hungry before lunch, munch on an apple. Some other good snacks are vegetables and hummus, yogurt, and nuts. For lunch focus on the protein and vegetables. A great meal you can prepare prior to work is a salad with chicken or tuna on top. Dinner should be your lightest meal of the day, don’t overdo it! Fish, chicken, beef tenderloin, whichever you prefer with some vegetables, quick and easy! If you’re hungry before bed, yogurt and an apple is perfect!
You should roughly try to eat every 2-3 hours, and don’t forget, WATER, WATER, WATER! Aim for 1-2 Liters a day. I know it is difficult with our busy schedules, so try to plan ahead! When you are making your kids lunch the night before, make yours with it or keep protein bars, nuts and apples in your desk drawer at your office! Healthy eating does take some extra work and if you don’t have time to make it try to make healthy options on the go! Just as easily as you can drive to a fast food restaurant you can drive to a supermarket.
Stay in shape mommies!
